Bangkok

Bangkok, instead of Thonburi, the capital city of Thailand because of its better strategically located place. There are many travel points around Bangkok for instance, famous temples, department stores, zoos, nightlife spots. Travelers can enjoy numbers of activities in Bangkok.

Palace and temple

  • Pha Borom Maha Ratchawang

    The Grand Palace was built in Rama1. There were 3 parts at the time it was constructed; the grand palace, the royal house, and Prasrirattanasasadaram Temple(Wat Prakaew). The important Throne-Halls are as following;

    • Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall: The cruciform Dusit Maha Prasat throne hall was built by Rama I in 1970. the building was built in purpose as the lying-in-state place for kings, queens and favored members of the royal family.

    • Chakri Maha Prasat Throne Hall: The modern central court is dominated by the curious Chakri Maha Prasat hall. The hall was built by King Rama V and completed in 1882. This building was built in purpose to be a resident of king’s guest.

    • Phiman Rataya Hall: It was built in 1789.Phiman Rataya used to be the sleeping quarters of kings when they took residence at the Maha Prasat. King Rama III stayed here for one whole year. Later during the reign of King Rama IV the remain of the Queen Mother lay in state here.

  • Wat Pha Kaew

    Wat Phra Kaew itself, generally known to the Thais as Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram. Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and the adjoining Grand Palace together form perhaps the greatest spectacle for the visitor to Bangkok.

    The temple is open from 8.30-11.30 and 13.00-15.30 everyday.

  • Wat Po

    This large and extensive temple neighbours the Grand Palace enclave on Thai Wang Road and contains a gigantic gold plated Reclining Buddha some 46 meters long and 15 meters high with inlaid mother of pearl soles. The temple is also regarded as the first center of public education and is sometimes called Thailand's first university.

    It is open to the public daily from 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m.
    Admission fee is 20 Baht.


  • Wat Arun

    This famous Chao Phraya riverbank landmark diagonally opposite the Grand Palace, is best known for a porcelain encrusted 79 meter central pagoda (phra prang) which sparkles in the sun. The temple can be reached either by Arun Amarin Road or by boat from Tha Tien Pier near Wat Pho. Wat Arun is open daily from 08:30 - 17:30.

  • WAT RATCHABOPHIT

    The temple is located on Fuang Nakhon Road near Wat Pho. Built by King Rama V in 1869, it was in keeping with tradition that each monarch constructed a temple to mark his reign. The temple is a mixture of local and western styles, showing an awakening interest in new ideas and a desire to experiment with them. The exterior of the chapel is in the That style, but the interior is decorated in the European style. Open everyday from 5.00am-8.00pm.

  • Wat Bowon Niwet

    This temple is located on Phra Sumen Road in the Bang Lamphu area. Built in 1829, it is the shrine-hall of Phra Phutthachinnasi, a very beautiful Buddha image which was moulded in about 1357. Wat Bowon Niwet is one of the most important temples of Bangkok, whose one-time chief abbot was King Rama IV before he ascended the throne. Other Chakn kings who had resided here during their monk hood include King Rama IV and King Rama VII, as well as His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

  • Wat Suthat

    Located on Bamrung Muang Road, this temple is noted for its superb 19th century murals in the main chapel. The distinctive Giant Swing outside the temple was once used in Brahmanic ceremonies long since discontinued. Nearby shops stock a very comprehensive range of Buddhist religious supplies. Open everyday from 8.30am.-9.00pm.

  • Ananta Samakom Throne Hall

    The Anata Samakom Throne Hall was built In Rama5 and was constructed in the Italian Renaissance and Neo Classic style of architecture. The exterior is decorated with Renersang marble from Italy. the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall is also the same style as St. Paul's Cathedral in London and Queen Victoria's Monument in Calcutta, India. All these places are still famous today.

  • Vimanmek Mansion

    It is located behind the National Assembly. This palace is believed to be the world largest building made entirely of golden teak.The building was originallyconstructed on Srichang Island in the Gulf of Siamby King Rama V ( King Chulalongkorn). In 1901, the building was moved to its present site which was Bangkok suburbs at that time.

Amusement parks, Zoos, and interesting performances

  • Siam Niramit

    The place where art and cultural in modern form of performance using special technique effects integrate with plays. The performance represents Thai history, the land of imagination and exciting Thai tradition. The theater prepares more than 2,000 seats to support honored visitors from around the world. The show is performed once a day at 20.00(8.00 pm.) The ticket price is 1,500 Bath.

  • Siam Ocean World

    The biggest indoor aquarium in southeast Asia, is located in Siam Paragon Shopping Center in Siam Square Area. It exhibits more than 30,000 figures from 400 species of marine lives from around the world.

  • SAFARI WORLD

    Bangkok's greatest open zoo and leisure park is located in Mm Buri, via Km. 9 on Raminthra Road. The 300-acre complex comprises a Safari Park populated by African and Asian mammals, a Marine Park with amusing performances of well-trained dolphins and seals, a Bird Park and a Games Corner. It is open daily from 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m. Admission fee is 600 Baht for adults and 360 Baht for children.

  • CHINA TOWN

    Bangkok's China Town is an old business center covering a large area around Yaowarat and Charoen Krung Roads. There are many small streets and alleys full of shops selling all types of goods. The area is always lively and market stalls abound. It has been the main center for trading by the Chinese since they were moved from their old site some 200 years ago. Nearby is Phahurat Market, one of the city's renowned cloth centers.

  • CHATUCHAK WEEKEND MARKET

    This is The Worlds Biggest Weekend Market selling practically everything under the sun, from the smallest nails, to foods, trendy fashions, antiques intricate wooden carvings, masks from far-off lands, adorable fluffy dogs, colorful fish of every hue and singing birds. You can find all this and more at amazing Chatuchak market. There are almost 9,000 individual booths overflowing with every imaginable type of wares to catch your fancy. Once inside the market, you will be catch up in a world of bursting crowds and stalls stretching as far as the eye can see.

  • Suanlum Night Bazaar

    Suanlum Night Bazaar is the 120 rai shopping arcade. Tourists can enjoy shopping for fashioned and contemporary cloths, decoration accessories, and etc. There are more than 3,700 shops and activity courts, restaurants, Thai cultural dancing art pavilions, Joe Louise Puppet performance. The shops in Night Bazaar are opened daily from midday until midnight.

  • Siam Square

    Siam Square is a large modern shopping area. It has a collection of cheap to mid-price fashionable clothes shops, a lot of which cater to teenagers. Also around here are book shops, internet cafes, fast food restaurants etc. MBK, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, Siam Paragon and Central World are shopping center which is located nearby Siam Square.

Night Life

Nightlife in Bangkok is very colorful. There are several entertainment venues such as pubs, bars, and karaokes. The most famous nightlife spots located largely on Rachadaphisek Road, Rama 9 Road, and Surawong Road.
