Chiang Rai
Northernmost province of Thailand, Chiang Rai, is a big province located northeast of Chiang Mai. It also encloses Lanna culture. The infamous Golden Triangle can be seen from Chiang Rai, this is one of many reasons for tourists to come to Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai also has eye-catching natural sites. Chiang Rai is the place to come and explore different cultures from different Hill-tribe villages (most of them migrated from Burma, China and Tibet).

Doi Tung:
Wat Phra That Doi Tung is one of the oldest temple of Lanna Kingdom. It is the enshrinement of the relics of Lord Buddha. After paying respect to Phra That Doi Tung, the next recommended place is the Princess Mother Commemorative Hall which presents the work and royal biography of the Princess Mother, the mother of the current king, the people’s Royal Grandmother, called by Thais as “Somdej Ya” and “Mae Fah Luang” (“Mae Fah Luang” means “the Royal Mother from the sky” ). During the Princess Mother life, she founded “Mae Fah Luang Foundation” helping hill-tribes to grow productive crops instead of illegal opium and ineffective slash-and-burn farming. The foundation helped hill-tribe people raise their standard of living and also helped get rid of opium. The next destination on Doi Tung is a botanical garden, Mae Fah Luang Garden. With beautiful flowers and natural native plants, it is one of the most magnificent garden in Thailand.
Doi Mae Salong:
Doi Mae Salong has eye-catching natural panoramic views. It is about 1800 meter above the sea level. The crop growing of teas, coffees, fruits (the famous lychees and peaches) have been booming. Because of China’s politics, the China immigrants have fled the country and settled down in Thailand since 1961 in Doi Mae Salong area. They formed Unnanese community here. The products sold here are fine teas, coffees, fruits and popular Chinese herbs.
Golden Triangle at Mae Sai:
Golden Triangle is the region where three country borders; Northern Thailand, Eastern Burma and Western Lao are met. You can enjoy riding on the boat along “Mighty Mae Khong River”. Tourists often go across the Thailand-Burma border for shopping.If you like adventures, mountain biking along the trails following the Mea Khong River is a great option.
Boat trip along “Mae Kok” River:
You can enjoy boat rafting along Mae Kok River, seeing forests, hill-tribe villages and mountains. There are couples of boat companies providing boat trips daily.
